How Not to Change Careers, in 10 Easy Steps... - When I Grow Up

How Not to Change Careers, in 10 Easy Steps... - When I Grow Up How Not to Change Careers in 10 Easy Steps, by The When I Grow Up Coach: Step 1: Believe that  work is a 4 letter word, and no adult is supposed to like their job.  (My own Dad would come home each work night and say Its called work because its not play but I guess Ill go back tomorrow because I have to. Um, no you didnt, Dad. You could have changed careers!) Step 2: Buy into the story youve heard from your parents / teachers / society that youre not good enough to be creative and/or entrepreneurial in a way that anyone would buy into. Step 3: Let the worry that youll be perceived as    flaky or unstable if you veer off course from what you went to school for or what youre currently doing stop you from even  exploring what might be next for you. Step 4: Ignore all youve seen on the Internet and the people you might know IRL and stand by the belief that nobody can make a lucrative income from doing work they love. Step 5: Convince yourself youre too old to start over. Step 6: Tell yourself youre too young to have any relevant experience. Step 7: Totally discount your  personal story / personality traits / self-taught  education / passions and interests. Those things are not allowed to be brought up or discussed when it comes to your career change. Instead, the only thing you believe is relevant to a career youre allowed to go in to  is one thats tied into your formal education and your work experience. Step 8:   Have an idea of something you want to do, but not take any action because you  may not want to do it 5, 10, or 20 years from now. Step 9: Come home from work every day and do nothing but binge watch Netflix. Allow the amazeballsness that is  Jessica Jones to totally take over your life. When its over, start a binging a new show. Rinse and repeat until retirement. Step 10: Dont let a sliver of belief in to your brain that it  is possible to find a job you enjoy and make the money you need to still be a card-carrying grown-up. Not a sliver! Do nothing but complain about work and count down til Fridays instead.
